Fernanda Fragateiro Portrait

Fernanda Fragateiro’s projects rethink modernist practices through an archaeological approach to their social, political, and aesthetic histories. Her research draws on archives, documents, and objects, and unfolds through three-dimensional works that blur the boundaries between architecture and sculpture. Deeply responsive to place, her practice invites the viewer into a performative relationship with the work. Through minimal sculptural and architectural interventions in unexpected sites—such as monasteries, orphanages, or abandoned houses—she uncovers hidden narratives of construction and transformation. Many of her projects emerge from collaborations with architects, landscape architects, artists, and performers.
