Juanan Soria Portrait

In his recent work, Spanish artist Juanan Soria explores the erosion of cultural memory and the destruction of artistic heritage, reflecting on societies that witness the loss of their own history and idols. His earlier project Destroy to Build approached destruction as a constructive method, reconstructing artworks damaged during wars through fragments and speculative interpretation. More recently, inspired by archaeology in Spain and Iberian Protohistoric artifacts, Soria investigates the notion of “layers” through both archaeological methodology and painting. By bringing together material culture, painterly processes, and digital imaging, he creates multi-layered works that open up multiple readings of the past and its transformation over time.
